The Arya Samaj Markham Scholarship program was inaugurated in 1997 in order to encourage post secondary education amongst South Asian Students with Hindu heritage.
Intended for High School graduates proceeding to University or College the same year, this scholarship program recognizes academic excellence, leadership skills and community interaction and achievement. Four scholarships are awarded annually. One award is the Arya Samaj Recognition Award, which is awarded to an applicant who has demonstrated outstanding involvement within the Arya Samaj community.
In keeping with the primary goal of Arya Samaj to "Make This World Noble", Arya Samaj Markham is proud to support post-secondary education opportunities for high school students of Hindu origin. We encourage students in accordance with the Ministry of Education essential guidelines for: flexibility, productivity, skills, communication, technology and teamwork. By assisting young people from Hindu families, we are investing in their future and success.
In order to qualify, students must be eligible to receive the Ontario Secondary School Diploma and proceed to University or College in the same year. Winners of these scholarships and awards are chosen based on academic excellence, public speaking and interviewing skills, and community involvement within the Hindu community and the community at large.
With the generous support of individuals and local corporations, The Arya Samaj Markham is pleased to offer this exciting opportunity and is able to offer four monetary awards totalling $4,250, a Floating Trophy, the “Profiles in Excellence” and Plaques to the winners. The scholarship winners are announced at the annual Awards Ceremony in June.
The life line of this program is donations from many a kind and large hearted community donors, local small businesses and major corporations along with spirit of volunteerism amongst Hindu Arya Samaj Community. Special thanks go to our Committee members, Judges, Interviewers and Volunteers, and most importantly to the Donors. We are very grateful to them for taking time out of their busy schedules and are hoping that we can count on their support in future years to come.
